Fall, Fashion, Guides, Outfits

Happy Tuesday guys. This weekend stores had such good sales, that I couldn’t resist to buy a few things. Some of the items are still on sale, and others are simply under $50! It’s a steal not to get, and most of my items mentioned below are super affordable, like $30-$40 range:) Hope you enjoy.

I absolutely love all these cute transitional outfit pieces that can be dressed up or down. Especially the cozy sweater. Let me know which one is your favorite in the comments below.

Fall, Fashion, Outfits

Loft Buttoned Skirt | J.Crew striped Top | Similar Shoes | Bag | Earrings | Necklace (similar)

Happy Monday everyone. This weekend was so much fun, we went to explore Charleston, SC. This city definitely holds a special place in my heart. We were there only for a few hours (long story), so we decided to just walk around town. Seriously, every corner had a charm to it. It is so photographic: starting from the beautiful streets, to marble steps to absolutely stunning front doors. I cannot wait to come back, especially during the cooler temps.
Vibrant city and culture are in every step of the way. This is especially true for the rainbow street. Each and every house is a vibrant and different color. Some houses had a gorgeous wrap around porch. I always dream to have that for my house. Also, we saw a few horses with carriages, lots of tour guides educating people about the Charleston history.  Its pristine beauty doesn’t end with charming, historic architecture, but only complements the beautiful sunsets and beaches around Charleston.
I wore this outfit to explore, and showed you guys on my Instagram stories. The skirt is so flattering and the green color is very rich, it is perfect for any fall outfits you may have in mind. I bought it during the 40% at Loft (it only came out to be like $42), and I think I will be wearing it a lot this season. Loft extended their sale, so if you haven’t had a chance to shop, do it now! It would also look really cute with a white tee, jean jacket and some over the knee boots for when it’s actually cool outside. For a work look, you can pair it with this top, I think baby pink and olive green look so cute together.

Books, Lifestyle
These photos are old, I just never posted them. Also, I still had my brunette hair, which do you like more, brunette or blonde?

This month has been extra busy, so I didn’t have as much time to read. However, I do have a list of good books that are a definite must read. Typically, I don’t like reading as much, so when I pick a book it has to be the absolute best book out there. Is that just me? (hope not!)

Any who, below is a small book summary as well as my must read books:

1. My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella

When I saw this book in my “recommended” section, I was automatically drawn to their book cover. I know people say don’t judge a book by it’s cover and some times that is true, but not every time. I almost always judge a book by it’s cover. Then I read the summary of the book and I was sold. In today’s day and age where everything revolves around social media and curating the “perfect life”, this book seemed like a breath of fresh air. I did start this book and almost half way in so I will keep you posted when I finish it.

Book summary:

Katie Brenner has the perfect life on the surface: she has an apartment in London (very expensive place to live in), she’s got a glamorous job and a very pleasing Instagram feed.

In reality, it’s a tiny apartment with no space to breath, long and rigorous commute to en entry admin job, and the pleasing Instagram feed is not exactly her real life.

All the stars seem to line up in Katie’s favor until her mega-successful boss Demeter fires her. Devastated, she has to move back home and help her dad with his new glamping business.

When all of a sudden Demeter and her perfect family book in for a holiday, and Katie is so tempted to grab the opportunity. She could either get revenge in Demeter for crushing her dreams or she could try to get her job back? Or perhaps, Demeter doesn’t have such a perfect like and Katie and her have much more in common than it seems.

2. White Girl Problems by Babe Walker

I didn’t pick this book out, my best friend actually read it first. She said it was hilarious and that I have to read it. I am borrowing the book now and so close to finishing it. I think I have like 2 chapters left. One thing for sure is that this book is absolutely hilarious. From page one you will be laughing and not one chapter that is boring.

Book summary:

Babe Walker is your typical manicured white girl with expensive Louboutins, obsessive smoothie habits, has a mother she’s never met and a large following on Twitter.
Babe Walker is trying to be perfect in every way and every day. But her “problems” have landed her in shopping rehab–that’s what happens when you spend $246,893.50 in one afternoon at Barneys. Now her Adderall-induced flash of inspiration motived her to write this memoir, revealing the gut-wrenching hurdles she’s had to overcome in order to be perfect in every way, every day. Hurdles such as: – I hate my horse.
– Every job I’ve ever had is the worst job I’ve ever had.
– He’s not a doctor, a lawyer, or a prince.
– I’ll eat anything, as long as it’s gluten-free, dairy-free, low-carb, low-fat, low-calorie, sugar-free, and organic.

3. The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter

So this is a true must read book for me as I haven’t read it yet. Also, this wouldn’t be a list without at least one psychological thriller. I don’t know why, but I love them so much. The second I saw this book got released, I knew I need to get my hands on it. The book just sounds like it is similar to The Obsession by Nora Roberts, which was a really good book. I highly recommend to anyone who hasn’t read it yet.
Book summary:

“Two girls are forced into the woods at gunpoint. One runs for her life. One is left behind…
Twenty-eight years ago, Charlotte and Samantha Quinn’s happy small-town family life was torn apart by a terrifying attack on their family home. It left their mother dead. It left their father — Pikeville’s notorious defense attorney — devastated. And it left the family fractured beyond repair, consumed by secrets from that terrible night.
Twenty-eight years later, and Charlie has followed in her father’s footsteps to become a lawyer herself — the ideal good daughter. But when violence comes to Pikeville again — and a shocking tragedy leaves the whole town traumatized — Charlie is plunged into a nightmare. Not only is she the first witness on the scene, but it’s a case that unleashes the terrible memories she’s spent so long trying to suppress. Because the shocking truth about the crime that destroyed her family nearly thirty years ago won’t stay buried forever…”
This is it for today’s must read books in September. If you have any favorites, please let me know in the comments below. I would love to hear your recommendations. The Obsession by Nora Roberts was actually a recommendation by a sweet reader. I think that’s definitely the best way to find a good book is through recommendations.

Fashion, Outfits
Cold Shoulder Ruffle Top | AG Jeans | J.Crew Wedges | Tory Burch Earrings | Necklace

Happy Monday!!!I cannot say enough good things about this top! It’s just too perfect. The true white colors pop, look fresh and clean. The little ruffle detail on the cold shoulder is so feminine and unique. It would also look perfect with a cute fall brown suede skirt like this one or this jean skirt.
When I was first looking at this top I didn’t think I would like it that much. From initial impressions it looked extremely thin, so I was concerned it would be see through. But, nope it looks perfect as you can see from the photos above.
Any who, this weekend was so much fun. We spend it by exploring Charlotte and seeing what our new city has to offer. I also stopped at Nordstrom (duh, of course) and picked up the cutest outfit. I will be sharing it next week, so don’t miss it. In the meanwhile check out my Instagram (@darlinglittlethingblog) as I sometimes post the outfit there first and then the blog. Hope you had a great weekend as well!

BP. stripe peplum tee | J. Crew white jeans | Tory Burch tote, similar here and here | Sam Edelman heels | Infinity necklace (I got mine as a gift, so linking a similar one here)

Happy Thursday guys! I am so excited for this weekend as my boyfriend and I have planned to go and explore our new city. We recently moved to Charlotte, NC and honestly we know it’s super early but we both love it here. However, these photos were taken a little while ago around Boston area, so it makes me a bit nostalgic looking at them.
On a fun note, I’ve been wearing this top non-stop! I love stripes as a good transitional piece and this peplum top couldn’t be more perfect. The material is super soft, and I love how it hugs you in all the right places.
Below I just wanted to share a few of my favorite things about Boston and New England area in general:
1. Prettiest Fall Foliage
This maybe a little bias of me to say, but I think Boston and New England in general have the most photographic foliage compared to any other place. There’s something about that perfect crisp air, still green grass and pop of colorful leaves. As you may have guessed, going on hikeS, apple/pumpkin picking are definitely among the most popular activities to really appreciate the stunning natural beauty that New England has to offer.

These was taken last year during the peak foliage season.

First apple picking with our pup.

2. The Red Brick Freedom Trail and Gorgeous Cobble Stone
I don’t remember taking a photo of it, but thinking back I should have. It’s just always so darn busy in those cobble stone locations that even taking a selfie would be impossible. However, if you ever make a trip to Boston, be sure to visit the Freedom trail and of course the Boston Common.

3. Yoga at the Post Office Square
Every summer, Post Office square hosts free work out classes outdoors. For those of you who don’t know where it is, it is basically a small piece of green in the middle of the city that it has a relaxing area with a small field and water fountain in the middle. My co-worker and I used to go there almost every time they offered free yoga classes. It was a relaxing way to unwind after a busy work day, and also fun to just workout outside. If you are interested, here’s their schedule.

4. Best Seafood
I think this applies throughout New England and not just the Boston area. However, my boyfriend and I used to celebrate our anniversary at the Meritage Restaurant in Boston, so this place will always be a little special to us. They serve the most whimsical and delicious dishes you will ever have, not joking. Another unique aspect of that restaurant is they have a whole wall of different wines, so the whole menu is carefully curated to give you suggestions of the wines that pair well with specific dishes. If having great food wasn’t enough, their atmosphere is so relaxing (helps when you are in a busy city) and they have the most beautiful water view in Boston. Honestly, this is just a small amount of detail, but I could write a whole separate post just about the New England sea food, it’s that good.
5. Newbury Street
Oh the famous Newbury Street of Boston, who doesn’t love it. The convenience of luxurious shopping at your finger tips, charming living and exclusive restaurant locations, you really can’t go wrong. This picture is not the best quality but we took it on my birthday weekend on our first trip to the Hermes store in Boston.

Obviously, this is just the tip of the iceberg on what Boston and New England have to offer, but I really enjoy sharing these moment with you guys. If you have any favorite locations, share down below 🙂

Fall, Fashion, Outfits
1. Tory Burch Tote | 2. Monogram Necklace | 3. Free People Slouchy Sweater | 4. Tory Burch boots (on sale), even better price here | 5. AG Jeans
Happy Friday! So happy to share with you this outfit because it is perfect for a casual weekend outfit. If you didn’t know yet from my Instagram (@darlinglittlethingblog) then I will let you know here. I am officially moving to Charlotte, NC all the way from Boston. It’s a terrifying move, but I am ecstatic about it and can’t wait to share my journey with all of you. I am sure I will be posting a lot of Instagram Stories along the way, btw I wrote a whole blog post about Instagram Stories hacks that I use here. Any who, I am sure the weather is very different in Charlotte than it is in New England but I think this slouchy sweater makes it to my perfect transitional outfits list. Also, definitely lusting over the new Gemini Link Tory Burch tote. I love that shade of pink and would wear it all the time.
This tote is on my lust list for sure. I cannot wait to get it because it is soooo cute. I know I will wear it to work, to run errands and even to go shopping. I am 100% tote kind of girl so this one is absolutely stunning in my opinion. I saw it at Nordstrom one day when I was shopping and it looked even prettier in person. It would definitely fit my mac, planner and some essentials in there without trouble. If you are on a hunt for a good work tote, I highly recommend this one. Tory Burch does not disappoint with their quality, so get it before it’s gone. This tote also comes in black stripe and ivory.
2. Monogram necklace

Nothing beats a classic monogram necklace. It is the best fall basic because it goes well with sweaters, with other dainty necklaces and so much more. I think it is so effortless to throw one on and make any outfit more put together without the extra effort. I would get one in gold because it is easier to match with other jewelry, and it won’t go out of style. Pair it with these earrings and you won’t need any other accessories.

3. Free People Slouchy Sweater

Fall is all about cozy sweaters and what better way to get cozy than wear this slouchy sweater? I am ordering it now and hoping it will be here for next week so I can wear it as my transitional piece. It will be great for layering as well. For example throw a utility jacket or a puffer vest over it and you are all set!

4. Tory Burch Riding Boots

I got mine last year during the Nsale and love them ever since. They are the most comfortable fall boots and go with everything. I love the little heel on them as it gives me a little bit of “height boost” without being overwhelmingly high and uncomfortable. I actually just found a similar pair for almost half the price here. Be sure to check it out, it will sell out fast.

5. AG Jeans

This is actually the exact same pair I ordered during the Nsale. I wrote a whole blog post about my picks here. They are an investment piece but the most comfortable jeans I ever owned. I heard a lot about AG jeans in general and how they are the best jeans out there, but I couldn’t justify the price. However, when they were on sale – I had to get them. I actually got my boyfriend a pair of AG jeans as a present and he loved them too. So I am planning on buying a second pair maybe during the next sale for myself. I will keep you posted if I find something good. Jeans are the best fall basics, so getting a great pair is a must.

Blogger, Career, Fashion

I still can’t believe it has been exactly a year since I started blogging, well September 4th was! I know for some seasoned bloggers this may seem like not a big deal, but I am pretty happy with what I’ve accomplished this year. I also haven’t been the most active because of work schedule, but I still enjoy blogging and can’t wait to share more with you guys. I wouldn’t be here, where I am today without you. I am so thankful for your support, kind comments and messages. As a thank you, I wanted to give back and share some blogging tips. I asked on my Instagram Story to vote for several topics and majority wanted to see my Instagram stories hacks.

So, in honor of my Blogiversary I am going to share with you some of my Instagram story tips and tricks. The majority wins so let’s get started.

1. Solid Background

To set a solid background on your Instagram stories, it’s actually the easiest thing ever. Take a picture of anything → click on your pen icon → select a color you want → tap and hold. Viola you have your solid back ground.

2. Custom Background

Some days I think a solid background can be a little boring, and I want it to look a little more interesting. For example, if there’s an outfit that I want to share with you and I want you to screenshot it, I will use a custom background. You can make your background to look like anything you want.

First I go to Pinterest and browse for inspiration. I liked the one above with pink background and palm leaves. So I simply zoom in on the photo and screenshot the right angle I wanted. As you can see above, I simply opened my Instagram stories, and opened the photo I took a screenshot of then placed my wording over it.

3. Stripes

Stripes are a fun way to draw attention to your photo. I like to use stripes to let you guys know when I post a new blog post, or to tell you where I got a certain item from.

First, click to type text → go to special characters on your keyboard → select the underline (make sure it’s the lower one, not regular dash) →tap it continuously until you reach the length you want.

Second, pinch your line → make it as wide or narrow as you want. Works the same as zooming in on your photos.

4. Add more colors

I don’t use this feature as often just because it’s a lot of work if you are writing a lot. However it is a useful feature when you want to customize your wording, background colors, line color or sticker color.

When you are using colors simply choose any shade your want → hold it down → drag to your desired color.

5. Drop Shadow effect (3D)

I love using this feature, although it takes a little bit of time to really line everything up. It’s a cool feature as it grabs attention, stands out nicely and makes your Instagram stories look cool.

Type your word or phrase out → select a desired color, I chose black → type your word or phrase again in the same order and font → select desired color, I went with white → type your word or phrase again in the same order and font the third time → now line all three exactly the same words or phrases on top of each other in any order you like. I put black as my base layer, then white, and finished it off with a pale pink. You can do this as many times as you want.

6. Change the color of your sticker

This feature is so fun as you get to customize the sticker to any color you want it to be. So, start off by selecting your sticker →  tap on it once to change the color to white → go to your drawing icon → select any color you want → color over your sticker. See, super easy and fun.

7. How to use snapchat filters in Insta Stories

I don’t use this feature very often as I don’t take many selfies on my Instagram stories. But if you would like to, it’s very easy and fun.

Open your Snapchat → use the Snapchat filer, and editing → save to your camera scroll → open Instagram stories → pull from your camera scroll. If you do that within 24 hours it will show up normal without the white borders. You can do this with the photos or the videos. This is also very helpful if you are using both Snapchat and Instagram stories.

8. How to add polka dots

This is more of a bland feature, but I like it nonetheless. Sometimes a corner of my photo looks boring so I would add polka dots or fill in empty space.

To do it, go to your pen icon → click to draw → adjust your pen size → tap on the screen where you want the polka dots. I started with the large polka dots, then smaller until the space was filled.

9. Use Emoji for additional filters

I just discovered this Instagram hack a little while ago. Basically you choose any sticker you want, and I went with the fall leaf. Then you enlarge it and drag it to make a filter of your choice. So I enlarged my fall leaf emoji and dragged it to my bottom left corner that created this beautiful blush filter to add a pop of fall color to this photo.

10. Play music in the background of your Instagram Story

Haha thinking back to this, I spent so much time figuring out how people did this! I just thought it was so boring to simply take a video of your new blog post in silence. Almost awkward, you know. But it turned out to be the easiest Instagram trick ever.

Go to your spotify or other music app → start playing your favorite song → exit out and open your Instagram stories → start taking a video of anything you want → post. It’s that easy.

Well, this is it for my Instagram stories hacks and I hope you learned something new. If you have any tricks that you guys use, please let me know in the comments below. I would love to know. Also, if you liked this post, share or comment down below if you want to see more blogging tips.
